Sierra Marine, with headquarters outside of Chicago in Litchfield, Illinois,has been the leading manufacturer and supplier of marine engine and drive parts for more than 35 years. The company is a manufacturing division of publicly traded Teleflex Marine, and distributes more than 6,000 products to stores worldwide. Recently, the company s rapid expansion of its warehouse created difficulties for its employees. As the floor space grew, employees could no longer manage inventory in real-time due to the short wireless range of their old handheld scanners. As a result, data had to be manually  uploaded to a database when the scanners returned within range of the server. The problem was exacerbated by the age of Sierra Marine s handheld equipment, which began to fail on a regular basis.

It took two to three days to inventory a new boutique. This was important time that could have been spent selling   instead of counting   product.

Background: With the aid of TSCs Alpha-3R portable printer, Taiwan hospitals are able to easily print patient information, nursing staff IDs and test tube labels, while expediting doctors  instructions to nursing staffs.

Solution: After a member of the nursing staff inspects a patient s record via computer, he or she downloads and double-checks the doctor s instructions. The Alpha-3R barcode printer is then used to print the patient s ID data on a label, along with test tube labels for patient specimens and an ID label identifying the attending nurse. When a patient undergoes a test, a hand-held computer (personal digital assistant) can be used to verify the name of the patient, identity of patient specimens and name of the attending nurse.

Situation: The production of tires is a complex process involving many fabrication steps and a variety of rubber compounds. Rubber compounds are first mixed and then moved to a bead-wire assembly station. The material is then transferred to an extrusion station, where the compounds are processed and later moved to another station to be cured in a press under heat and pressure.

New EU regulations, which go into effect in November 2012, require tire vendors to provide consumers with information about fuel efficiency, wet grip and noise class in all promotional materials and on a label attached to the tire itself. The regulations govern all light and heavy-duty tires (C1, C2 and C3).

Solution: The tire manufacturer selected TSCs high-speed TTP-2410M label printer to track materials during the assembly process. With its fast throughput, the TTP-2410M is ideally suited for Just-in-Time production. Operators are able to quickly print tracking labels that are then attached to each item so that it can be clearly identified during the assembly process.
